I got lost...

Post by Rhapsody on Thu Sep 10, 2009 3:19 pm

I got lost on my bike this afternoon and ended up here...

Its called Llanthony Priory and its in the back of beyond.

Its great if you like hill walking or horseriding (there's trekking stable within a few yards).

There's even a quaint little hotel built into one side of it where you an buy booze, or tea and cakes.

The rarely seen sunshine was much appreciated and I enjoyed a couple of fresh plums scrumpted from a tree in the grounds.

And as I left I almost made a new pal but I think the lack of cake crumbs on offer made the friendship a fleeting one.

All in all a very pleasant afternoon. Getting lost has never been so rewarding! Smile

It's gorgeous. I was there years ago with my girlfriend. The history is also very amazing too. The ransacked Welsh castles in the area were superb too.

Are you using a secure disc to park your bike stand on? I never like parking on grass or gravel period, even with those discs.

Thanks both.

I did have a puck for parking on grass but I lost it a few weeks ago, I probably forgot to pick it up when I drove off, lol. I keep meaning to get a replacement but haven't got round to it yet. I'm pretty paranoid about my bike falling over though so I test the ground before letting go. I only parked there long enough to take the photo then moved it to the proper carpark so as not to annoy the tourists.

I'd love the puck if its going spare! Must have left my last one behind on the grass somewhere! doh!

And whether or not you send the puck I'd be happy to do you a sig. Just send me some pics to use, tell me how you want your name written eg. BenneyBoy, Benney Boy, Benneyboy etc and if you want the name of the bike on there too.

Sorry its taken me so long to reply to this btw.

Crikes Will. You're pretty hard working when it comes to fixing things!

I cleaned my bike two days ago and just got pelted in an unexpected hail of rain before midnight Sad

Looks like it'll have to be cleaned again when I'm back home Sad

When its winter time Morgan, I find the best thing to do it just hose it down rather than fully go into cleaning as its only clean 5 minutes.

I don't have a hose Sad

I have a 500ml plant pot sprayer though! Not quite the same thing.

With ACF50 though, a spray down is just perfect. I've been going over everything with Autosol and just bought myself £90 worth of silicone grease; tyre sealant, dry lube, hydrophilic degreaser and also a heat resistant dust cover! Got to try this out......

Ahh Autosol, the best thing man created Very Happy I've just lost mine! Its probably in amongst all the stuff from moving house.

Woww thats quite a bill, but if it looks after your bike then its worth it Very Happy

Heat resistant, Hmm never tried one, I'd be to worried about marking my exhaust can Smile Is your one water proof? Out of all 3 houses I stay at only one of them doesn't have some where under cover I can park my bike now.

Whats tyre sealant?

Ohh I don't think the post sprayer would get rid of the tough mud that sticks to your faring like glue.

One of the fantastic things about the carbon fibre fairings is that nothing seems to glue to them! They are very easy to maintain and are so streamlined, that there aren't many crevices/gaps.

Or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough ....

Have you moved house yet again?!

I'm not sure tyre sealant is a good idea....it's supposed to stop slow punctures - you literally pass it into the tyres through the valve and then spin the wheel to distribute it. I've worked out that I get punctures in my tyres after 2K miles - probl. cos the compound goes softer as it wears. I don't normally use these, but everyone tells me they're very good......

Oxford (horrible company! expensive products!) do a heat resistant motorcycle cover which is also waterproof. It's a very thick bike cover and isn't just heat resistant at the exhaust end. Some covers have heat resistant material where the exhausts are supposed to go, but the cover doesn't always meet the exhaust at the right area. I do like this cover - they do a Rainex range, but check on the packing that it is heat resistant otherwise you'll be scraping the cover off the exhaust!

The canvas covers are good though: I've been using one for over 8 years. I usually through a plastic cover over it, to protect the canvas from the rain/dust. The plastic cover would melt onto the bike exhaust if applied directly. Great eh? A bike cover to protect a bike cover to protect the bike Smile

Ahh i don't have carbon on the cbr so I wouldn't know, hopefully it is then I can spend more time riding the vfr than cleaning it Very Happy

Well the way I look at it is, the bigger the cc the bike, the more toys/gadgets it has meaning there is more to clean and you have to get in every nook and crany.

Yeah its a bit of a mess at the minute, I'm sleeping in the second lounge on the floor and everything is in the barn in boxes.

Hmm I don't think I would use tyre sealant if it was me, it makes changing the tyre messy business and being that you do LOADS of miles a year, you would need a new pot of it every 5 minutes Laughing

Yeah Oxford is dear, I looked at one of those rainex covers but they cost £50 or something, and I read a horrible review about them, that if they sit on the ground they soak up water about a foot high and also mud and bits and crap like that get caught in the bottom which when you pull it off your bike it scratches it Sad

Which one is it you have? I do fancy the Rainex one it does look very good, let me know how you get on with yours Smile

lol! thats mad, a bike cover to protect a bikie cover to protect a bike Very Happy does that put an extra 2 mins on your 12 lock 15 minute undo time too? Very Happy
