Need a hug again

Post by Lissee on Thu Jan 07, 2010 4:00 am

My dads ill in intensive care Sad

He fell on the ice and has a ruptured spleen, they don't want to operate because of blood pressure and breathing problems so they are hoping it can maybe heal itself. Here's hoping he can get stable and hopefully it will mend itself without the need for an op .

Not a good start to the year

Thats really bad Lisa, can it cause complications later on? (Do you need your spleen)

And I'm sure that we all hope he pulls through. It's been a rough last year, and this isn't a good start to this one! Neutral

You can do without ur spleen, think your immunity is lower after its removed. its just the fact he probably wouldnt fair well under anesthetic ,if he goes downhill fast they will have no option but to risk an op. hes a bit better this afternoon so thats a relief already

Sorry to hear that Lissee. Good to hear that they're leaving it to recover with a good chance that the rupture will stop and heal itself.

How old is he? I guess if there is an anaesthetic risk, it's better to wait and see if the body can repair itself.

Take care on the ice everyone...

That's not unusual Lissee.

Rupturing a spleen, it's the loss of blood into the abdominal cavity which is the greatest danger. Once the bleeding stops, there's a good chance he'll heal.

He's still in the danger area, but most people with ruptured spleens recover, unless they get a complication (like a clot etc).

One of the best things about modern medicine, is when doctors learn not to mess around with the body! And let it heal on its own, intervening only when necessary. Just because they 'can', doesn't mean they 'should' Smile
